What is therapy?

Therapy, counseling,or psychotherapy is a form of treatment used to assist an individual in working through challenges in their everyday life related to their behaviors, beliefs and thoughts that are influenced and/or affected by one's self, life experiences (past and current), family/interpersonal relationships, career and more.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you are experiencing persistent emotional distress, difficulties in daily functioning, or if your well-being is impacted, seeking therapy is advisable. It can be beneficial for various concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.

How do I choose the right therapist for me?

It is important to take time to think about what you need from your therapist. You should feel comfortable to sit with your therapist as you process things you have never shared with anyone else or acknowledged yourself in addition to aspects of your life you have been vocal about.

It is encouraged to shop around for the right fit, understanding that it may take some time to get comfortable even with a therapist that checks off all your preferences. When searching for your therapist, make a list of the things that are important to you (gender, age, ethnicity/cultural sensitivity, therapist educational background/specializations, availability, insurance/self pay, philosophy/approach to helping others, etc.) and complete consultations with potential therapists asking the questions you have.

What can I expect during the first therapy session?

The initial session typically involves introductions, discussing confidentiality, and exploring your reasons for seeking therapy. It's an opportunity for you and the therapist to assess if it's a good fit.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. Therapists adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, with few exceptions, such as the risk of harm to oneself or others

How often should I attend therapy sessions?

The frequency depends on your needs and goals. Initially, weekly sessions are common, and as progress is made, sessions may become less frequent.

How long will I be in treatment?

The length of treatment varies and will be determined by you and your therapist. Throughout your treatment you and your therapist will be checking in on your progress related to your growth goals. There may be times that your session frequency increases or decreases based on other factors such as progress or lack of progress, barriers to treatment, level of engagement, availability, life events and more.

Simply put there is no specified length of time for treatment. We will show up and be present with you for as long as it takes for you to reach your goals and maintain them!

Do you accept insurance?

Yes we accept insurance. We accept the following insurances at this time: Medicaid/Husky, Anthem, Cigna, United Healthcare/Optum, Harvard Pilgrim, Connecticare and Aetna.

Although we accept insurance it is important to check with your insurance to determine if we are an In Network or Out of Network provider. It is also important to understand your benefits to see if you have a co-pay for sessions or deductible with coinsurance. This is something we can help with!

Can I bring up specific goals or topics in therapy?
