Celebrating Black History Every Day: A Love Letter to Our POC Family

February is here, and with it comes Black History Month—a time of honor, remembrance, celebration, and reflection. But at POC, we hold a deep truth close to our hearts: Black history is not confined to a month. It lives in our past, moves through our present, and shapes our future. It is in our brilliance, our resilience, and the everyday ways we show up for ourselves and each other.

Black history is woven into the world around us—into every innovation, artistic expression, and movement for justice. It lives in the inventions that transformed daily life:

  • Garrett Morgan’s traffic light guiding our roads

  • Marie Van Brittan Brown’s home security system protecting our homes

  • Dr. Patricia Bath’s Laserphaco device restoring vision

  • Lonnie Johnson’s Super Soaker bringing joy to millions

  • Madam C.J. Walker’s beauty innovations paving the way for economic freedom

It lives in the historical successes that continue to inspire generations:

  • Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, whose mathematical genius propelled us into space

  • Barack and Michelle Obama, symbols of leadership, dignity, and cultural pride

  • Serena Williams and Simone Biles, redefining excellence in sports

  • James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, and Toni Morrison, whose words continue to liberate minds

  • Harriet Tubman and Fannie Lou Hamer, whose courage changed the course of freedom

Our excellence is not rare—it is constant. It is everywhere. It is us.

We have always been visionaries, problem-solvers, and builders. Even when the world tries to define us through limitation, we rise through possibility.

We hold a legacy of strength, determination, and love. For generations, we have carried our families, communities, and culture with our heads held high—and we continue to do so today.

Black History Month is not just a celebration of where we’ve been. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come, how much we’ve accomplished, and how fiercely we will continue to thrive. There are countless examples of Black excellence all around us—past, present, and emerging.

We challenge you to:
